In Diamond Dynasty, the card matters more than the name printed on it. A Live Series roster rating isn't the same thing as a special card's OVR, and parallel boosts can move its displayed attributes again. The October 23, 2026 drop puts 99 OVR versions of Ted Williams, David Ortiz and Juan Soto in the conversation, but they don't fill the same role. If you're mapping out a session, check your MLB 26 stubs plans alongside the lineup spot you actually need to improve.
Pick the hitter for the matchup
Don't let 99 OVR make the choice for you. Williams has 125 contact against either side, with power at 125 versus right-handers and 103 versus lefties. He's a strong middle-order option when a righty is on the mound. Ortiz also has 125 contact from both sides, but his power tilts toward left-handers: 118 against them and 112 against righties. His 44 fielding and 35 speed make DH the sensible default. Soto brings 123 contact versus righties and 117 versus lefties, plus 125 power against righties. His LF and RF eligibility can help when the outfield is crowded.
Check the reward route before you play
These cards sit behind different content, so it's worth checking the reward screen before committing to a long session. The main routes in the October 23 update are.
Earn XP along the 9th Inning Path and choose Ted Williams from its Boss Choice Pack, or take Signature Series Chipper Jones.
Complete the missions and requirements in the Retro World Series Program for Awards David Ortiz. The card is not sellable, so the program is the route to focus on.
Look for Juan Soto in Chase Pack 31. Listed options include the 8th Inning XP Reward Path Wheel, a Show 50-Pack Bundle and individual Show Packs. A pack chance isn't a promise, and no odds are provided here.
Play the online Solo Ranked matchups in Weekend Classic 8 for chances at the Bryan Reynolds and Nolan McLean 2026 Finest rewards. Check your platform's online requirements before entering.
Use positions and boosts with care
Parallel XP and active boosts can change what you see on a card, so compare candidates in the same state. Williams works at DH if you'd rather keep a better defender in left; Ortiz is also best kept at DH when possible. Soto's LF/RF options give you more room to move pieces around. Quirks are situational, not a switch to press: consider the listed game context, such as a home game or a runner on third, rather than assuming every effect is active all the time. The Ortiz Hitting Captain boost calls for 15 Red Sox cards and adds six to contact and power against both sides. That's useful, but only if the roster cost makes sense.
Make the final card check before the game
Before Ranked play, open each candidate and confirm its series, position, parallel level and current boosts. Then look at the opposing pitcher: Williams' power is notably lower against lefties, while Soto's strongest power split is against right-handers. Finished games count toward Parallel XP and Featured Program Missions whether you win or lose, so a session can still move those goals forward. Weekend Classic 8 is listed as starting October 23, 2026, but no end date is given here; check the in-game timer. If you're planning a longer session, decide what you need before you buy MLB 26 stubs, then review the event rewards after each milestone.
